DESCRIPTION.
Clear colorless aqueous solution.
PHARMACOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS.
Novocaine in case of interaction with sensitive nerve fibers and nerve endings blocks them and causes anesthesia. Novocaine does not have vasoconstrictor action, does not penetrate through intact skin, slowly penetrates through intact mucous membranes; acts quickly, but not long (30-50 minutes). For reduction of absorption from the injection place and prolongation of its local anesthetic action to novocaine add 0.1% solution of adrenaline hydrochloride. After getting novocaine into the bloodstream decreases the formation of acetylcholine and reduces the excitability of peripheral choline active systems; blockes transmission of nervous excitement in autonomic ganglias (especially cholinergic) decreases excitability of motor areas of the cerebral cortex, spinal reflexes are inhibited (especially lumbar department), decreases excitability ofreceptors of internal organs (heart, lungs, intestines). Novocaine has antispasmodic, antihistamine, N-cholinolytic action; reduces contraction of smooth muscles; inhibits reflexes; prevents development of excitation; activates function of the reticuloendothelial system.
APPLICATION.
For infiltration anesthesia. As anesthetic in the treatment of animals with gastric ulcer, atony with tympany of proventriculus and intestine, alimentary dyspepsia, spasmodic colics, mechanical intestinal obstruction, traumatic peritonitis, reticuloperitonitis; spasm of blood vessels (blockade by Musin, lumbar blockade); bronchopneumonia, catarrhal pneumonia, hyperemia, pulmonary edema; prolapse of the uterus and vagina, metritis, heam delay of cows and goats, sero-catarrhal mastitis; rheumatic inflammation of hooves, varicose pododermatytis, joint diseases of rheumatic origin; for perirenal blockade by Vishnevsky; as desensitizing antitoxic agent for anaphylaxis, asthma, scarlatina of horse. For the treatment of animals with wounds that slowly granulated, ulcers, fistulas, myositis, papillomatosis. 0.5% novocaine solution is used for dissolution of antibiotics prolonging their action.
DOSAGE.
The doses and methods of injection depend on the purpose of application (possible solution infiltration in tissues, innerve passing place, intravenous or intraarterial. It is also possible to use drug as a solvent for dry forms of antibiotics. The maximum single dose of novocaine 0.5% per animal (ml):
horses – 400-500;
cattle – 300-400;
goats, sheep, pigs – 100-150;
dogs – 60-100.
Before injection of drug solution is heated to body temperature of the animal. Intravenously drug is injected slowly.
CONTRAINDICATIONS.
Individual hypersensitivity to novocaine; hypotension, purulent processes at the injection site.
SIDE EFFECT.
Weakness, hypotension, collapse, allergic skin reaction in the form of urticaria, dystaxia. Possible development of anaphylactic shock.
PRECAUTIONS.
In case of application of the drug are possible allergic reactions such as idiosyncrasies. Intravenous injections in maximum doses cause excitation and intraarterial – inhibition of the cerebral cortex. The product is not compatible with tannin, alkalies, oxidants, heavy metal salts, hexamethylenetetramine (methenamine), sulfonamides. Sulfonamides weaken the effect of anesthetic novocaine. In case of intravenous injection of novocaine is reinforced miorelaxation effect of dithylin. Meat and milk can be consumed in food bypeople without restrictions, except tissues from a place of direct of injection, if the animal was forced slaughtered immediately after using the drug.
STORAGE.
Store in a dry, dark place, inaccessible to children at temperature from 5°C to 25°C.
Expiration date of the drug – 3 years. Expiration date after first opening: ampoules – immediately, bottles – 7 days on condition of storage in the refrigerator.
