The white crystalline powder. It is soluble in water (1: 170), easily soluble in boiling water and caustic alkali solution, it is soluble in alcohol. Aqueous solutions are neutral.

Pharmacological properties

Streptocide has antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, causative agent of gas gangrene and other microorganisms, but inactive against staphylococci. In action streptocid a bacteriostatic agent; intravenous administration of large doses can manifest Bacteriolytic action. Well absorbed mucosa of the small intestine, from bad stomach and large intestine, subcutaneous tissue.

Soaked streptocid relatively evenly distributed throughout the body, it penetrates through the blood-brain barrier; streptocid allocated primarily by the kidneys.

Application

Applied inside with tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchopneumonia, Mýto, puerperal sepsis, gastroenteritis, pyelitis, cystitis, wound infections, and other diseases; topically for treatment of infected wound (in the presence of pus, dead tissue activity of the drug is reduced).

In mixtures with norsulfazola, benzylpenicillin and ephedrine streptotsidom used for rhinitis in horses and cattle.

Dosage

Inside: horses and cattle 5 – 10 g; sheep and pigs 0.5-3 g; 0,2-0,4g hens; the drug must be set every 6-8 hours for 5-7 days.

Contraindications

Contraindications to the use streptotsida are diseases of the hematopoietic system, nephrosis, nephritis.
