PHARMACOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS. Lerafen – anthelmintic broad-spectrum drug, consisting of active substances rafoxanide, fenbendazole and levamisole hydrochloride. The mechanism of action of rafoxanide is the inhibition of process of oxidative phosphorylation and mitochondrial synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the change in the energy balance of parasite that causes the death of worms. Fenbendazol inhibits enzyme system of worms, which also leads to disruption of energy metabolism and causes the death of the parasites. The mechanism of action of levamisole hydrochloride is related to its effect on the neuromuscular system and inhibition of enzymes of parasites, leading to paralysis and death of worms.
